This is an interesting named presentation grade sword made by the Ames Sword Company. As such, I believe that it is fairly late- probably right around 1900. It is named to the recipient- Wayne Hamilton- on both scabbard and blade. I have been unable thus far to find anything about him. The sword is a presentation grade 1860 staff and field officers. The hilt is possibly earlier than the blade, as it has a plain reverse guard, which is more common on earlier swords. Th button that holds the reverse guard in place is missing. The sharkskin grip and wire are very nice. The blade has a gold wash, which is showing some wear. The name "Wayne Hamilton" is on the reverse, with "US" on the obverse. The company name, "Ames Sword Company"
